About Anne Brontë

Anne Brontë (1820-1849) was an English novelist and poet, best known for her novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. As the youngest of the Brontë sisters, Anne made significant contributions to English literature, despite her brief life. Her work is noted for its bold exploration of themes such as women’s independence and social criticism. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, published in 1848 under the pseudonym Acton Bell, is considered one of the first feminist novels, addressing issues of alcoholism, domestic abuse, and the constraints placed on women in Victorian society. Anne’s literary achievements, along with her poetry and her other novel Agnes Grey, have cemented her legacy as a pioneering and influential writer in the 19th century literary canon.
