About Ernest Hemingway

Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961) was a renowned American novelist, short story writer, and journalist, whose distinctive writing style and adventurous life have left an indelible mark on 20th-century literature. Born in Oak Park, Illinois, Hemingway’s experiences as an ambulance driver in World War I and a journalist during the Spanish Civil War and World War II deeply influenced his writing. He is best known for his novels The Sun Also Rises, A Farewell to Arms, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. Hemingway’s novella The Old Man and the Sea earned him the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and played a significant role in his being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.
