About Arthur Conan Doyle

Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930) was a prolific British writer and physician, best known for creating the iconic detective Sherlock Holmes. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, where he was influenced by one of his professors, Dr. Joseph Bell, whose keen observational skills inspired the character of Holmes. Doyle’s first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet, was published in 1887, introducing readers to the brilliant detective and his loyal friend, Dr. John Watson. The success of this novel led to a series of short stories, including those compiled in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1892), which solidified Holmes as a central figure in detective fiction. Beyond his detective stories, Doyle wrote historical novels, science fiction, and works on spiritualism.
