Jesmyn Ward is an acclaimed American novelist and professor, known for her powerful and evocative storytelling. Born in 1977 in DeLisle, Mississippi, Ward’s work often explores themes of race, poverty, and resilience in the American South. Her novel Salvage the Bones (2011) won the National Book Award for Fiction, bringing her widespread recognition and acclaim. The book, set in the days leading up to Hurricane Katrina, poignantly captures the struggles and strength of a poor African American family. Ward’s other notable works include Sing, Unburied, Sing, which also won the National Book Award, making her the first woman to win the award twice.
