Lucius Annaeus Seneca (c. 4 BCE – 65 CE), commonly known as Seneca, was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, and playwright. Born in Corduba (present-day Córdoba, Spain), Seneca was raised in Rome where he was educated in rhetoric and philosophy. He served as an advisor to Emperor Nero, although his political career was marred by controversy and ultimately led to his forced suicide.
