About Seneca

Lucius Annaeus Seneca (c. 4 BCE – 65 CE), commonly known as Seneca, was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman, and playwright. Born in Corduba (present-day Córdoba, Spain), Seneca was raised in Rome where he was educated in rhetoric and philosophy. He served as an advisor to Emperor Nero, although his political career was marred by controversy and ultimately led to his forced suicide. Seneca’s philosophical works, particularly his collection of letters known as Letters from a Stoic (or Epistulae Morales ad Lucilium), have had a lasting impact on the development of Stoic thought. These letters offer practical advice on how to live a virtuous life, emphasizing the importance of reason, self-control, and resilience in the face of adversity.
